The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
