The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the United States against five Europeans involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce legislation regulating US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
